Workshop

Enhancing the Quality and Efficiency of Grading in Gradescope in STEM Courses Through Target-Aligned Rubrics and Feedback

Are you a STEM instructor interested in enhancing the quality and efficiency of grading in Gradescope? Would you like to learn how to implement sound assessment pedagogies within the platform? In this workshop, we will explore strategies to address key pedagogical questions such as:

  • how to design rubrics that are more readable, transparent, and easily interpretable for students;
  • how to provide constructive, learning‑target–aligned feedback more effectively;
  • how to build structured rubrics that accommodate different variations of the same problem.

Through examples and hands‑on activities, participants will analyze effective rubric design strategies and apply them directly to their own courses. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to create structured, readable, transparent, and interpretable rubrics aligned with learning objectives to support constructive and meaningful feedback in Gradescope.

*Prerequisite: Participants are expected to have prior experience with grading in Gradescope. Those who have not yet graded using Gradescope should complete the pre‑task sent via email before attending the workshop.
